Nebraska Basic Code

The Nebraska Basic Code (NBC) is a comprehensive code of ordinances designed for use by smaller Nebraska municpalities who wish to avoid the expense of a customized code of ordinances. It is available for both Villages and Cities of the Second Class. The provisions in the NBC are useful to all Nebraska municipalities that wish to have models for basic municipal ordinances on subjects contained within the NBC.

Sample Provisions

The Nebraska Basic Code contains provisions on subjects typically encountered by smaller cities and villages and may include:

  • Administration
  • Animal Regulations
  • Business Regulations
  • Fire Prevention
  • General Offenses
  • Nuisances
  • Peddler and Solicitor Regulations
  • Streets and sidewalks
  • Taxation
  • Traffic regulations
  • And much more

Based on State Law

Most sections are based directly on Nebraska law or on model ordinances drafted by American Legal Publishing. In addition, the Nebraska Basic Code is updated annually to incorporate state law enactments, deletions, and amendments, keeping your municipality current with changes in state law.
